Camp Owaissi

Camp Owaissi is a place where you can take your time, breathe easy, have a stress free wedding ceremony on the smooth pebble beach and a campfire at night. You may even opt for s’mores instead of wedding cake! And it is only a 20 minute drive from downtown Kelowna. As a wedding photographer there, I had fun photographing a bridal party playing frisbee on the beach, canoeing at twilight and dancing in the beautifully decorated gazebo.
As a “local” photographer, I can turn picture-taking into image making with my knowledge of “secret spots” like little pockets of untravelled beach, accessible yet private desert trails and a love of the amazing light that fills this unique part of the Okanagan Valley.

This large log gazebo beside the dock functions as an open air wedding reception hall. The head table with the lake view backdrop is a natural for stunning photography. There are cabins for guests and a grassy field for the outdoor-oriented. Who says you can’t mix tuxedos with tents!

As you drive to Camp Owaissi on Kelowna’s windy Westside road, it is like traveling along Memory Lane to an Okanagan lakeside gem. Wedding photography here lends itself to a vintage approach – black and white film and darkroom come to mind in a digital age.

The original wooden lodge is just as it was 30 years ago – not overdone, practical yet interesting with its cantilevered framework. You can hear thousands of kids’ voices within these walls echoed by the dozens of children’s footprints embedded into the cement floor – a testament to many good times past and yet to come.
